Alberta Beef Producers continues to work to make the national portion of the provincial checkoff non refundable.
Chairman Chuck Maclean says 1 dollar of the 3 dollar checkoff goes to
support research and marketing and it's shortsighted of producers to
withhold. "I mean we have all kinds of studies shown the value of that
money left in the industry", he says, "so we're hopeful that it will
get re-instated, probably by the fall".
Maclean says the national checkoff got caught in the provincial levy when the legislation was changed and there are still groups in the province that support a full refund. |
