This past weekend the Drumheller Club Volleyball 16U Blue team had the chance to bring home a National Championship.
The team did exceptional but came up just short, bringing home silver from the tournament in Tier 12. losing out to Victoria in three sets in the final. Mia Manca believes that they had a great season. “Overall, it was obviously excitng, very entertaining to watch, and be a part of. We did well for a small Drumheller team against some big city teams. We generally hold our own and represent Drum pretty well.”
Competing on the national stage, the team came up against some very competitve teams shares Kelsey Scott. “At the U16 Nationals over the past weekend I saw the competition as very challenging and overall relentless. Every team we played was well structured and closely matched in skill level as us. It was definitely a great experience playing on the court.”
Rebecca Pelonero from Three Hills, and played on the DCV Smash, enjoyed the experience and is proud that they came home with silver. “We’re a small town. We go to the big city tournaments and no one really knows Drumheller and Three Hills. Bringing home silver from a national standpoint is pretty impressive, that us small town girls can represent Alberta.”
Kayla Scott notes that having the same coach for the past three years has truly helped in her development and the team’s success. “This was our third club season with Coach Audrey and that consistency and training has really helped our team. Overall, it has been a great year, I have learned so many great new skills and have created lots of fun memories.”
