If you have been on Highway 9 near Western GM in Drumheller over the last few days, you’ve probably noticed a lane reduction and crews working.
Early Thursday, July 11th, the watermain located under Highway 9 ruptured. A passerby notified Drumheller RCMP at approximately 1:30 AM with officers attending the scene 15 minutes later to make sure traffic avoided the lane where the water was flowing from. By 2:30 AM, Emcon crews were on scene and at 2:45 AM, Town of Drumheller crews attended with the water shut off by 3:00 AM. Timeline courtesy of Western GM.
Crews worked throughout Thursday to replace the section of pipeline that broke. During those repairs, another section adjacent to the damaged pipe was also determined to be broken. Crews continue to work on the replacement of both broken sections as of Friday morning. The hope is to have things repaired by Friday, barring any further setbacks.
If you are travelling northbound on Highway 9 near 10th Avenue SE, one lane is closed to traffic and please slow down while passing workers.
