Emergency crews were busy on Thursday afternoon (August 1), as a fire was reported along Newcastle Trail in Drumheller.
Fire Chief Derian Rosario provides the details on the fire and the response. “Shortly before 1:00 the fire department was called out to a motorhome fire at the end of Newcastle Trail. We had a great response from the crews and were able to go out there and quickly extinguish the fire. There was a little damage to another vehicle and being in the location that it was, there was a bit of spotting in the brush that we also took care of.”
Fire crews were concerned about spread of this fire due to the dry conditions according to Fire Chief Rosario. “There is a concern because of the fire ban and the extremely dry conditions we’ve had over the last week and month or so. There was spotting in the bush, we were very concerned about that fire migrating into the bush, but the crews did a great job and held (the fire).”
We are now in week three of a full fire ban within the Town of Drumheller and Rosario is thankful to residents for complying with the ban. “The community has been great. Everybody has a great understanding of the reasons why we have a fire ban. Jasper is another great example of why we needed to have that fire ban in place and have to give the whole community kudos for standing behind that (fire ban) and working with us on this.”
