In years’ past, the Town of Drumheller played host to Provincials in hockey, in various age groups. This year is one of the first times, if not the first time, that Drumheller will host the U18 B Provincials in hockey.
Kim Moulton with Drumheller Minor Hockey shares that having a tournament of this caliber will benefit the whole community. “I think it is a really good thing for the community. We can bring in a lot of teams, bring in business to a lot of the hotels and restaurants, and it’s a great opportunity for the kids. For a lot of these kids they would never get to play in a tournament like this.”
As being hosts, the U18 Raptors will be in the Provincials this year. Moulton notes the team is excited to be in the tournament but still want to earn their spot. “It is kind of nice because you know you’re going to the show but the goal is still to hopefully, win out the season and earn our way there.”
To put on an event as big as this takes a whole team of volunteers and Moulton appreciates all the help and support received so far. “The community has been fantastic. We have had lots of people from the community already step up and offer to help us out. I’ve got a fantastic support system on our team. We’ve got a lot of great parents that have already stepped up and Corrina Borsheim is one of them. To be honest with you, she’s the one that did the entire bid package, been a huge support, she really is probably the reason that we got it. I really appreciate the support I’ve gotten from everybody.”
The tournament will take place at the Memorial Arena from Thursday, March 27th to Sunday, March 30th. Moulton shares that they will need volunteers for the event, from running the clock, to working in the penalty box, to selling tickets at the door, to working at their raffle table.
