Changes could be coming to the Town of Drumheller’s Community Standards Bylaw, but not before residents get their chance to have their say.
Town Council heard a presentation at Monday’s (May 5th) meeting from the Emergency & Protective Services Department, to consolidate the current bylaw with the Tourism Corridor Property Standards Bylaw into one, clearer regulation. The goal would be to eliminate conflicting standards, and to reflect some extensive feedback already received from residents.
In a statement, Director of Emergency & Protective Services, Greg Peters, says, “This proposed bylaw is a direct reflection of what we heard from residents. We’ve taken a thoughtful, balanced approach to address long-standing concerns, support healthy neighbourhoods, and ensure our enforcement practices are practical and fair.”
Among the highlights in the proposed bylaw:
- Combines two existing bylaws into one unified document
- Strengthens rules on the accumulation of garbage, yard waste, and derelict machinery
- Introduces regulations prohibiting front yard parking on unpaved surfaces
- Incorporates snow and ice removal standards for sidewalks, with fines for non-compliance
- Expands enforcement tools for littering and illegal dumping
- Revises penalty structures to ensure proportionality and legal flexibility
A public hearing is scheduled for June 2nd at 5:30pm in Council Chambers.
