A tradition that has been going on at Drumheller Valley Secondary School (DVSS) continued this year as a number of students participated in the 30 Hour Famine to support World Vision.
The For Club at DVSS have been fundraising leading up to the 30 hour challenge, which began for students on Friday morning at 1 AM, lasting until Saturday evening at 6 PM. McKenzie Henry, one of the members of For Club understands the importance of participating in such an important fundraiser. “It feels really important just to help others. It is such a big part of For Club.”
They had a few different fundraisers, including a bake sale for DVSS students on Wednesday and Thursday of last week. Henry knows that DVSS love to support causes, especially through bake sales. “Our school loves bake sales, obviously, and they always love supporting us.”
The students participating are only allowed one cup of rice during the fasting over 30 hours and Henry knows that will be difficult to endure. “I think the hardest part will be having the cup of rice later on in the day, and then that’s it.” She does class herself as a snacker and it will be difficult.
The team was hoping to hit their fundraising goal but Henry is happy with any amount raised for the cause. “Any money I feel helps. If it helps, I feel happy.” The For Club will update the amount raised when their tally is completed later this week.
