With Premier Danielle Smith calling the by-election for the Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills riding for June 23, candidates are putting their names forward to represent the riding.
The by-election was called due to longtime MLA Nathan Cooper resigning to take a position in Washington D.C., as a representative for the Alberta government. Cooper has been the MLA since 2015. In the 2023 provincial election, Cooper won the riding with over 75 percent of the vote.
So far there have been three people that have put their names forward to run. For the United Conservative Party, Tara Sawyer is looking to retain the seat for the party. Sawyer is from the Acme area. For the New Democratic Party of Alberta, it was announced in a press release on May 27th that Mountainview County resident, Bev Toews, will represent the party. Finally, the Republican Party of Alberta has their leader, Cameron Davies, running in the by-election.
There may be more candidates that will put their name forward as the deadline for nominations is June 5th. Advance polls will run throughout the riding between June 17th and 21st, with election day being June 23rd.
