This past weekend a number of people were at the Old Grouch’s for their annual STARS fundraiser.
This fundraising effort has gone on for 17 years strong and this year was no different as there again were a number of silent auction donations and fundraising efforts. Fran Nargang of the Old Grouch’s was pleasantly surprised on the amount they were able to raise this year. “Because of the way everything is going, the economy and everything, I was very impressed.” Through the fundraising efforts, over $15,700 was raised for STARS Air Ambulance.
Although not part of the total, the Town of Drumheller also presented a donation to STARS according to Nargang. “This year, again, the Town of Drumheller donated 10,000 dollars through here. It is not added to our amount but it is donated through (our fundraiser).”
The event took place on Friday evening from 6 PM to Midnight and again on Saturday from 12 Noon until 10 PM. This year there were mostly local people on hand for the fundraiser but in years past they have had people from across Alberta and even other provinces take part. This year there were a couple of personal fundraisers involved in the event shares Nargang. “Max, my grandson, shaved his hair and his beard for it. There was one of my customers that donated $750 and another donated $400. Jamie Worman is doing a tattoo and he is doing super (in his fundraising).”
Nargang thanks all who supported the event once again and is still accepting donations for STARS, if you would like to support, until the end of the month.
