Throughout 2025 there have been a number of fundraising efforts by numerous businesses to support the Hot Meal Program, offered through Senior Services with the Town of Drumheller.
Earlier this month representatives from the businesses involved along with the Town of Drumheller staff and councillors were on hand for the cheque presentation to the program to the tune of $1,750.
J J Deliveries has been a key partner in the delivery of the meals, as well as spearheading some of the fundraising efforts. Tim McDonald with J J Deliveries is quite pleased on the results of the fundraising so far. “It’s been good. This is our fifth event and this is the most we’ve raised so far. We’re aiming for our next event in September and we really want to get above $2,000, if possible.” McDonald shares that their total raised through the five events is upwards of $5,000.
The impact that these hot meals have for the seniors is important notes McDonald. “I think for a lot of them, especially those I shop for, I’ve seen their groceries and I know that they are getting a balanced meal. I think for them it is a bit of company. For some of (the seniors) it is a bit of a wellness check, when we touch base with these people.”
McDonald also notes that they are always looking for more partners to be part of the fundraising efforts. “We would love anyone that would be willing to chip in and help us to raise money for this great program.” Businesses that helped in this particular fundraiser were Badland Bargains, J J Deliveries, the Napier Theatre, Old Grouch’s, Boston Pizza, Balwin’s Sourdough Bakery, and Freson Bros.
