It has been an amazing season for the U13 Pure Venom softball team from Drumheller.
This season they have finished their year with a 17 win, 1 loss, and 1 tie record, earning themselves a spot in Provincials. The team kicked off their season with an undefeated run at a home tournament on Mother’s Day weekend. They followed that up with back to back gold medal victories in Airdrie and Calgary. The only loss for the team came in the Stettler Storm tournament, where they would bounce back for a bronze medal.
This past Saturday, June 28th, the team secured their spot in the Provincial Tournament with a win at the Regional Qualifier in Didsbury. Provincials this year will be held in Wainwright from July 11th through the 13th.
Coach Heather Jones is quite proud of this team for not only their play on the field but their positive attitude off the field. “During a rain delay that led to our only tie, I watched our girls connect with players from the opposing team, offering praise and encouragement. At one point in the season, our team even had the chance to teach a less experienced team the “Firecracker” chant, celebrating the spirit of the game.”
Congratulations to the players: Cali Romanow, Tessa Wallace, Ella Perry, Claire MacDermid, Izzy Gross, Rylie Goruik, Meela Kubel, Quinn Johnson, Lara Fowler, Eva Jones, and Bentley Peters.
Coaches this year for the team are Heather Jones, Tamara Perry, Chantel Fowler, Charlene Romanow, and Mike Romanow. The team would also like to thank the parents who have been very supportive throughout the year.
