On Wednesday evening, representatives from the local Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts met with the team from Rails To Trails to make a donation.
The troops have been raising funds throughout the year and wanted the funds to go towards the Rails To Trails project. Amy Serunyigo, Vice Group Commissioner for Scouts Canada Drumheller shares why the troop decided to support the trail project. “We felt that helping our community was a great way of getting the Beavers out there and seeing how the public reacts to us being back out (in the community).”
Much of the funds was raised by the Beavers through their fundraising efforts notes Serunyigo. “We did a walk-a-thon. We walked from the high school football field to the BCF.”
The group was able to raise $440 for Rails To Trails and the kids were excited that the money went to Rails To Trails admits Serunyigo. “The kids were very excited to help the community in a way that was tangible, and they could see it.”
Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts have been in the Drumheller Valley for decades and Serunyigo and her group hope that more kids, girls and boys, have an interest to join them this fall. “They are able to go on My Scouts (website) and register or they can find one of our Scouters at events that we usually have in the fall for registration.” The program is open to all between the ages of 5 and 26. They meet at the Knox United Church on Monday nights for Beavers and Scouts, then on Tuesday nights for Cubs.
