The event just keeps growing and growing. This weekend, drivers are going to challenge the mud conditions at the Cereal Mud Bog.
Tim Kolkman is the organizer and is impressed on the growth over the four years of the event. “This is our fourth year of doing it. Our first year, we had 12 trucks show up, and last year we had 37 trucks show up.”
Kolkman notes that the event stems from the history of the area. “It is something that the area had years ago. I grew up in Acadia Valley and we used to have a great big mud bog there. It kind of died off. My wife and I, we got into mud bogging 10 years ago. It’s a great group of people and we’ve met a lot of people through it. Word of mouth through the mud bogging community has gotten all the trucks there. As far as the (spectators), it is something the area hasn’t had in years and I think there is a little bit of nostalgia. It is something to bring your family to, to get out and have a great day.”
The event is a kind of homecoming of sorts for the area admits Kolkman. “It’s under 200 people that live in Cereal and a couple of years ago, we had 600 people in the stands. It brings people from all over. It gets them out for the day and visiting with friends they haven’t seen in a long time from miles and miles away.”
The show takes place this Saturday, July 26th and as long as your truck meets specifications, you would be able to compete. We have also heard that they are looking for more volunteers for the event. Reach out to Tim at 403-664-0785 for more information and to help. The gates open at 11 AM and the show starts at 12 PM. There are many different events taking place and the day will wrap up with a dance. For all the details, visit their Facebook page.
