This weekend the community of Rockyford will be the place to be as the Rockyford Rodeo is back for another year.
According to Darcy Koester from the Rockyford Rodeo, it’s a homecoming of sorts. “It’s our 66th annual rodeo, a tradition in Rockyford, and lots of things for everyone to enjoy.”
There is more than just the rodeo but Koester notes that some of the best will be competing there. “It will feature the top competitors in the world. It is a pro rodeo so lots of American and Canadian cowboys and cowgirls competing. Lots of local events for the youth as well, mutton busting, mini wild pony racing, and the famous catch and keep.” I tried to get Darcy to explain the Catch and Keep but he said the best way to learn about it is to come and see it at the rodeo.
There are so many different events taking place. It all starts under the lights on Friday night with the rodeo performance. Everything starts at 6 PM. Then on Saturday, the grill is warm by 7 for the Pancake Breakfast. The parade kicks off at 10 AM. The Farmers Market will be at the Curling Rink from 11 AM to 5 PM. Rodeo action starts at 12:30 PM. The BBQ Beef Supper is at 5:30 PM and the Outdoor Jamboree begins at 7:00 PM with a live band. If the weather turns, they will move the concert into the Rockyford Arena.
The event is a fundraiser for the Rockyford Lions and Koester notes that it is not just Lions members that help to put this on, it is a full community effort. “Not just Lions members but a lot of community members pitch in to put these events on. Many community projects and facilities need help to keep going.”
They are set for the weekend but if you are interested in volunteering, you can visit their website for all of the information and the schedule of events on Friday and Saturday night.
