If you have been travelling in the downtown core, you may have notices some large equipment working around where the former recycling area was along Railway Avenue.
As announced earlier this year, construction has began on the connection of Highway 9 and Railway Avenue via the 6th Avenue extension. There have been a number of closures due to the construction. The rail trail that bisects the new street development has been closed for a few weeks now, with a detour in place directing walkers and riders into the the downtown core while construction takes place.

Railway Avenue and the access to the Auto Value building is also affected by the construction. Earlier this week, road closed signs went up at the Highway 9 and 6 Ave SE intersection on the north side. As well, Railway Avenue is currently closed between 2nd Street and 3rd Street East. The closure of Railway Avenue is to allow crews to excavate and expose the water and sewer lines to connect the new service lines for the new street. Railway Avenue will hopefully reopen to traffic by the beginning of August, barring any major issues and weather.
The full project is expected to be completed by September with the pathway reopening at that time as well.
