UPDATE: Gleichen RCMP have laid charges in connection with a fatal hit and run on Siksika Nation on July 26, 2025. The deceased have been identified as 27-year-old Trayton Runningbird and 45 year-old Clifton Saddleback. A third victim, a 45-year-old woman, remains in hospital in critical condition.
As a result of the investigation, the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has arrested and charged 27-year-old Siksika Nation resident, Adolphus Weaselchild, with:
- First Degree Murder (x2);
- Attempted murder
Weaselchild has been taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody with future court dates at the Alberta Court of Justice in Drumheller.

On July 26, 2025, at 9:30 p.m., Gleichen RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision at 54 Map 3 Subdivision on Siksika Nation. Upon arrival, it was determined that two people were deceased and a third was in critical condition. Two others were uninjured. Investigation thus far has determined that the five people were walking when they were hit by a vehicle. The vehicle then fled the scene.
The deceased are a 27-year old male and a 45-year-old male, both residents of Siksika Nation. The injured female is a 45-year-old resident of Siksika Nation and she is still in critical condition. RCMP sends condolences to the family and friends of all involved.
RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken carriage of the investigation.
