One of our local Titans football players is hoping to be recognized as the Youth Athlete of The Year with 3BRAND and Sports Illustrated, with the possibility of winning $25,000. The program is being ran by Colossal.org for DTCare.
Trystin Golueke has put his name forward and his mother Megan Golueke shares how she found out about the opportunity to nominate him. “I was scrolling social media and this ad came up asking ‘is your youth athlete the next athlete of the year’, and it said something about $25,000.” Golueke wasn’t sure it was applicable for Canada but after some investigation, she determined that her son would be eligible. The process to try to win is by attaining votes through the program’s website and if her son is the lucky winner, he would be featured in an ad in Sports Illustrated and win the $25,000 prize. “We all believe that our kids should be the one’s to win these kind of things. That would be a cool opportunity considering everything that we’ve been through as a family, if he had that kind of money to set himself up coming out of high school.”
There are a number of local athletes that must have also seen the social media post as there are players in different sports from area communities, like Acme, Hanna, and also other football players with the Drumheller Titans in the competition. “With how Drumheller, and all small towns are, I didn’t want to put his name forward until I saw somebody else put their name forward. I know that we are well known within the community, especially with Trystin working at Boston Pizza, as well. I think that if there is a lot of people that ‘jumped on the bandwagon’, I may have started something.”
To vote for Tristyn Golueke, you can vote for free by visiting their website. You must have a Facebook account to vote. There is also an opportunity to have more votes with a donation to The V Foundation for Cancer Research and the Why Not You Foundation, if so desired. The program is operated in the US so tax receipts for donations may not be eligible in Canada. You can also find out more information about the program and Frequently Asked Questions by visiting the Youth Athlete Of The Year website.
