Mother Nature didn’t play nice last weekend but that didn’t damper the spirits of organizers and participants of the Dancing With The Dinosaurs Powwow.
The event was to take place in the park behind the Badlands Community Facility on Saturday, August 2nd and Sunday, August 3rd. The organizers had to make the decision to move the powwow indoors as rain was expected. According to Lynn Fabrick from the organizing committee, things went great. “Definitely over expectations, highly successful and wow, what a turnout.”
Those that attended had a number of highlights from the event and we posed that same question to Fabrick on her highlight of the event. “I think the highlight was all the dancers and the appreciation for the culture. The crowd was really supportive and seeing that, was just wonderful.”
The transition of the event into the fieldhouse of the Badlands Community Facility was quite an endeavour but Farbrick appreciated the help from the staff at the BCF. “The staff there made it smooth, made it happen. Without them, it would have been a lot different. Being inside, the dancers and the vendors all appreciated not having the iffy weather happening, but also the air conditioning and the bleachers. They set it all up.”
The transition to a stand alone event and a two day event was perfect according to Fabrick. “I think that making that decision was spot on. We had our own time to showcase, people weren’t feeling pressure. They knew what was happening day one, what was happening day two.”
