On Monday, Drumheller Town Council held a Special Council Meeting and part of that meeting included the resignation and retirement of current Chief Administrative Officer, Darry Drohomerski.
This has been in the works for months and Drohomerski’s final day as CAO is Friday, August 22nd. Drohomerski is stepping down but will still be involved with the Town of Drumheller. “My last day is Friday but then I had committed to this council that I wanted to see the completion of the Flood Mitigation program, specifically the one aspect of land expropriation, through to its conclusion if they wanted me to, and they whole heartedly did. I have committed to stay on for that, for a period of time and I don’t know what that period is.”
The decision to retire was both hard and easy for Drohomerski. “I know the council has an election coming up in October, and I had two thoughts in my head. If I wanted to stay a little longer, then I wanted to commit to a new council, which took me into mid 2026. My wife is retired since we moved here and we really wanted to take a step back and enjoy life in the slower lane.” His reason for staying with the Flood Mitigation project is really what drew him to the position in Drumheller initially.
As for retirement, Drohomerski plans on playing more racquetball per week and travel a bit more. He is also looking forward to enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning and not having to rush off to work.
With his resignation, the new CAO for the Town of Drumheller is Esther Quiambao, who has been Assistant CAO since she joined the Town of Drumheller, in preparation for the retirement of Drohomerski.
