On Tuesday, September 30th, as part of the National Day For Truth and Reconciliation, an event took place behind the Badlands Community Facility in Drumheller.
A number of local residents along with representatives from Siksika Nation were on hand for a ceremony to acknowledge the importance of remembrance of the day, as well as the 94 calls to action. Lynn Fabrick hosted the event and there were a number of dancers and drummers on hand for the event. Town of Drumheller Councillor Tom Zariski was asked to speak on behalf of the Town. Reverend Rachel Nadon also spoke on behalf of the United Church, who did operate some of the residential schools in Canada.
The event wrapped up with large round dance for all who attended as well as a meal offered by the organizers, of traditional Indigenous foods.
