The Dragons did get some time for turkey over the Thanksgiving weekend but had some work to do before getting to enjoy a meal on Monday.
The Dragons had two home games over the weekend. It all started on Friday night as the Camrose Kodiaks made their first visit of the season. The Kodiaks came to play as they would score the first two goals of the game in the first period on two powerplay goals, putting the Dragons in a hole after one period, down 2-0.
Drumheller would inch closer with a powerplay goal of their own in the second, when Jensen Marsh scored his third of the year, from Dallin Antos and Tyler Deakos, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
The Dragons would then tie the game early in the third period, when Matthew Hilderman scored his 7th of the year, from Kaiden Schaupmeyer. Both teams would have chances but the game would remain tied, needing overtime.
Nothing would be solved in the extra five minutes taking the game to the shootout. The only goal in the shootout was scored by Junshi Hideshima of the Kodiaks, giving them the 3-2 win.
Sunday, the Drayton Valley Thunder paid their second visit to the valley of the season and it would be a back and forth affair. The Thunder would take the early lead in the first and it would take until the final 12 seconds of the first period before the Dragons would answer with Jensen Marsh scoring his fourth of the year, on the powerplay, from Tyler Deakos and Tristan Payne. The first would end tied 1-1.
In the second, Noa Halat of the Dragons would score his first of the year, early in the period, to give the Dragons the 2-1 lead. Drayton Valley would tie the game just over a minute later and then take the lead once again with a powerplay goal at 6:05. Drumheller would tie the game 3-3 with 6:13 left as Jensen Marsh scored his second of the game, from Tyler Deakos and Tristan Payne once again on the powerplay. Then, with 4:01 remaining in the second, Tyler Deakos (6) would give the Dragons the lead, assisted by Bradley Gallo and Matthew Hilderman. Drumheller would take the 4-3 lead into the third period.
The Drayton Valley powerplay would even the score at 4-4 when Jack Sears scored his second of the game with 7:07 left. Nothing would be solved by the end of the third period, sending the game into overtime.
With 1:17 left in the extra session, Tyler Deakos scored his second of the game, from Bradley Gallo, to give the Dragons the overtime 5-4 victory.
Not much rest for our Dragons as they hit the road tonight (Tuesday) to face the Canmore Eagles. The Dragons beat the Eagles earlier this year, at home, by a 5-3 score. You can listen to all the action tonight starting at 6:45 with the Fountain Tire Drumheller Pregame Show from Canmore with Jason Blanke and Boedy Shields.
