Drumheller Fire and Rescue were called out to a building fire on Wednesday, October 15th to a downtown Drumheller business.
The business, The Spirit Within, on Centre Street had alarms going according to Drumheller Fire Chief Derian Rosario. “We are still investigating the fire but I can safely say that the fire did start in the basement. There was a fire alarm system in the building, which gave us early alerting, allowing us to get in the building very quickly, knock down the fire, and preserve the building.”
Two businesses adjacent to the building were evacuated. “Exercising caution on initial arrival, we did ask the two businesses on either side to evacuate, to make sure that if there was any migration in those older structures, that all those people would remain safe.”
Rosario shares that a number of firefighters responded. “We did have about 14 of our own firefighters there. In the early stages, I did call Munson (Fire Department) down, just in case we had a larger progression of fire.”
It took crews less than two hours to get in and extinguish the fire. There is no report of damage to the contents of the business as of yet.
