The Alberta Government issued its final crop report of 2025 on Friday afternoon. It says the harvest is virtually complete with 99 percent of major crops combined, above the 5 and 10 year averages of 97 and 83 percent respectively. The hot dry weather through late summer and into the fall support a rapid pace to the harvest.
The big issue now is the lack of soil moisture. The report said that sporadic rainfall and light snow across some parts of the province were not enough to improve conditions which are continuing to decline. That’s also impacting quality of fall-seeded crops. Pasture conditions are also declining because of the dry soil and early frosts. The Peace region didn’t report any fall-seeded crops this year. That region felt the effects of drought during much of the growing season.
