Municipal elections are taking place throughout the province, including here in Drumheller.
Polls opened at the Badlands Community Facility this morning at 10 AM and polls will be open until 8 PM. The Town of Drumheller also held a number of advanced polls throughout the valley last week and according to Mitchell Visser, Returning Officer for the election, a number of people took advantage. “I think they were well used. In the previous elections we had the votes in the communities on election day. This time, we decided to put it out in the communities for advance voting and I think it went reasonably well. We had about 710 or so voters throughout the advance polls.” Advance polls were in Midland, East Coulee, Nacmine, and also at the BCF.
The Town of Drumheller suggested people to make sure they are registered with the Province but Visser notes that if you have not, you can still vote. “You’re looking to bring one piece of government issued photo ID with your name and current address. If you are not registered to vote, you will have to fill out a form which is a statement saying ‘I’m eligible’. It is pretty easy, just a little bit of paperwork.” Visser also advises that you need to bring something with your physical address, in paper form, if you have not been registered.
Polls close at 8 PM and results will be coming in starting at 9:30 PM tonight with the unofficial results expected sometime after midnight tonight.
