Your Drumheller Dragons finished their weekend road trip in Lloydminster against the Bobcats.
The Bobcats are playing in a brand new arena in Lloydminster, the Cenovus Energy Hub, and it is quite a venue. Not sure if that had an effect on the Dragons but the Bobcats had a strong start in the first period. Jaxan Hopko opened the scoring 3:18 in for Lloydminster. Only 1:16 later, the Bobcats increased their lead with Noah Smith scoring his first of the year. Drumheller’s Nick McLennan would take a penalty for interference and it would cost them as the Bobcats captain, Kade Fendelet, scored of the powerplay, making it 3-0 Lloydminster. As McLennan was leaving the penalty box, he shared his thoughts with the referee, which sent him back to the box for unsportsmanlike conduct. On the ensuing power play, Gus El-Tahhan scored, increasing the Bobcats lead to 4-0. That would be the end of the night for Sean Cootes as Brandon Williams would come in for the remainder of the game. Lloydminster would lead 4-0 after one.
The Dragons would settle down in the second with a number of scoring chances. Allen Sherpa would get Drumheller on the board with 3:02 left in the second, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
In the third, the Bobcats would regain their four goal lead when Esteban Cinq-Mars scored at 8:23. Drumheller would answer when Allen Sherpa scored his second of the game at 12:45. The Bobcats would seal the Dragons fate with 3:51 left in the third, when Quinn Smith scored making the final 6-2.
Your Dragons will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday night as the Fort McMurray Oil Barons pay their first visit to the Memorial Arena for the season. Game time on Tuesday night is at 7:00 PM.
