Your Drumheller Dragons had their second Tuesday home game of the season and were hoping to pull out a win to snap their six game losing streak.
Their opponent, the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, were starting their southern swing road trip and were hoping to get off on the right foot. Drumheller worked to quash that hope early in the first with an early goal by Rowan McDonald at 2:05. Only about 6 minutes into the first period, one of the Oil Barons forwards would collide with Dragons netminder Sean Cootes. Cootes in pain, would try to continue but at the 7:38 mark, he would make his way to the bench and would not return. Brandon Williams would take the net for the remainder of the game. The Dragons would hold the 1-0 lead into the second period.
Fort McMurray would tie the game on a power play marker early in the second period as Jaxen Gauchier scored, making it 1-1. Drumheller would regain the lead when Dallin Antos scored his first of the year, from Jackson DeGraves and Lauchlan Kozicky at 13:57. The Oil Barons would tie the game once again with 1:44 left in the period as Ryan Arnold scored short-handed, making it 2-2.
The deadlock would be broken early in the third as Bradley Gallo, who had been struggling to score over the losing streak, scored his 9th of the year at 5:22, assisted by Brayden Ryan-MacKay and Rowan McDonald. Fort McMurray would put on the pressure but the Dragons would increase their lead with 3:44 left in the game as Bradley Gallo scored his second of the game (10) from Allen Sherpa and Luca Dufour. The Oil Barons would pull affiliate goaltender Sergio Davidson for the extra attacker and would capitalize. Evan Benoit scored his first of the year with 1:06 left in the game, on the power play, making it 4-3 Dragons. Time would run out on the Oil Barons and Drumheller would end their losing streak with the 4-3 victory.
Your Dragons are back on home ice on Friday night as the Grande Prairie Storm pay their first visit to the Memorial Arena. It is Military Appreciation Night and there will be a small ceremony prior to the game in appreciation of Remembrance Day.
