Our Drumheller Dragons had two games against one of their long standing rivals this past weekend, the Olds Grizzlys.
The two teams met last Saturday in Olds and Drumheller would drop the game in overtime. The Dragons were looking for redemption at home on Friday night. The Dragons newest addition was also in the lineup, former forward Jacob Goudreau, who is back on the team after a season and a half with the Okotoks Oilers of the BCHL.
The Grizzlys would open the scoring in the first with a goal by Jordin St. Louis at 11:00. Just over four minutes later, Rowan McDonald of the Dragons would score his fifth of the season. With 1:13 remaining in the first period, Olds would regain the lead with a goal by Jordan Wales.
In the second, the Dragons would have their opportunities to tie the game, and would with 2:49 left when Jackson DeGraves scored his third of the year.
Early in the third, the Dragons would take their first lead of the game when Jacob Goudreau scored his first of the year at 1:28. The Grizzlys would tie the game at 6:50 on a powerplay goal by Braeden Veldhuizen. The game would remain tied through overtime, requiring a shootout. The only one to score in the shootout was Ryder Riedel for Olds, giving the Grizzlys the 4-3 shootout victory.
Saturday would be a low scoring affair in Olds with only two goals scored in regulation. No scoring in the first period and the Grizzlys would take the lead early in the second on a right place, right time goal by Sam Giangualano at 4:58. The Dragons would tie the game 1-1, with 8:47 left in the third as the puck would go off of Jacob Goudreau, for his second goal in as many games, on the powerplay. The game would also need a shootout and the Grizzlys would score twice, the Dragons once, to give Olds the 2-1 shootout victory.
With the two points of a possible four over the weekend, the Dragons are one point behind Calgary for third, two points back of Canmore for second, and only four points behind Camrose for the division lead. Drumheller will try to get in the win column on Wednesday with a rare midweek road game in Devon against the Xtreme. Game time Wednesday night is at 7 PM.
