Drumheller and area residents always support the Salvation Army Food Bank with the Red Bag Food Drive and in 2025 it was no different.
Many volunteers were out in the community on Thursday night collecting non-perishable food items from doorsteps in Drumheller. A number of volunteers were also at the Salvation Army to unload vehicles and bags to help fill the shelves at the Food Bank. Summer Manca has been one of the organizers for a number of years and shares that the volunteers were quite busy Thursday night. “Great year, great community spirit, lots of volunteers out collecting, lots of people leaving food out, it’s perfect.”
It is quite amazing to see how it fills the shelves of the food bank every year admits Manca. “It just comes in one load at a time, one neighbourhood at a time, and it all adds up to fill those shelves. This push at the end of November is exactly what they need to get through December. It’s amazing how it comes together every year.”
If you missed getting your red bag out on your front porch on Thursday night or would still like to make a food donation, just bring to the Salvation Army along Highway 9 South. Speaking with Captain Robert Burrell, they could use some volunteers to be at the kettles in a number of stores in Drumheller over December. As for the needs of the food bank, cereal and pancake mix is in serious need for the shelves.
