On Saturday morning, the staff were getting ready to open Sun City Liquidators on Highway 9 South in Drumheller and noticed a strong smell.
They thought it was a gas smell and called 911. Drumheller Fire and Rescue attended and according to Deputy Fire Chief Duane Bolin, there were high levels of carbon monoxide. “We got an alarms call from Red Deer dispatch that they had a carbon monoxide detector going off at Sun City Liquidators.”
At the time of the call, it was quite cold and the furnace was the probable cause of the alarm. “We did have high levels of CO detected, so we talked with the landowner and they will be getting an HVAC contractor to inspect their furnace to see what’s wrong.”
The staff evacuated to their other building while fire crews cleared out the carbon monoxide in the building and the building owner was on hand waiting for a heating company to stop by and check out their furnace. By 11 AM the store was able to reopen to the public. Bolin confirmed that there were no people affected by the carbon monoxide.
