Our Drumheller Dragons had two home games on the weekend, Friday night and Saturday night.
Friday night, the first place Camrose Kodiaks came to town for the final time in the 2025-26 season. The Dragons would come out with a number of great scoring opportunities in the first period, out chancing the Kodiaks but Camrose would get the only goal of the period, on a power play nonetheless, when Shane Purves scored at 5:17, making it 1-0.
Again the Dragons would have their chances in the second period but again, would not be able to find the back of the net. Former Dragons, now Camrose captain, Keegan Beagle scored his third of the year (two have been against the Dragons), on the power play, making it 2-0 Kodiaks.
Drumheller would again have their opportunities in the third period, firing 16 shots on goal but could not solve netminder Carter Capton, who stopped 50 shots in the game. Camrose would finish the scoring with an empty net goal with 1:44 left, making the final 3-0 Camrose.
Drumheller would need to bounce back on Saturday against their rivals from Calgary, the Canucks, and bounce back they would. Drumheller would open the scoring 4:27 in with Jackson DeGraves scoring his fifth of the year, from Lauchaln Kozicky and Allen Sherpa. Just over five minutes later, Luca DuFour would add to the Dragons lead with a goal on a breakaway, his second of the year, unassisted. Calgary would answer with 4:27 remaining, with Wade Wallace scoring his first of the year, making it 2-1 Drumheller after one period.
Calgary would tie the game early in the second with Harper LoLacher scoring his 18th of the year, 32 seconds in, making it 2-2. At 7:44, Bradley Gallo would score his 12th of the year, 50th in his AJHL career, from Jensen Marsh, to give the Dragons the 3-2 lead. Then, with 7:27 remaining in the second period, Gallo would score his second of the game (13) from Jensen Marsh and Jase Johnstone, on the power play, to give the Dragons the 4-2 lead heading into the third period.
The Canucks would make things interesting at 6:17 of the third with Connor Radke (12) scoring, cutting the lead to 4-3 Drumheller. Only 25 seconds later, the Dragons would regain their two goal lead when Nathan Ivey scored his third of the year, from Brayden Ryan-MacKay and Jacob Goudreau. Then, with 1:50 remaining, Allen Sherpa would score into the empty net (6), unassisted, to make the final 6-3 Dragons.
Drumheller is now off until Friday when the Devon Xtreme make their first trip to the valley. Friday night is the Tighty Whitey Toss night, where fans bring in new underwear and socks for those less fortunate, at 7 PM. Then Sunday afternoon is the annual Teddy Bear Toss game against the Drayton Valley Thunder at 2 PM.
