Saturday, November 29th, was one of, if not the coldest day so far this fall but that did not stop the community from coming out to kick off the Christmas season in Drumheller.
The annual Festival of Lights took place in Downtown Drumheller on Saturday from 4 PM to 7 PM. When the night began it was below minus 20 degrees but a number of people still came out to enjoy the festivities. A number of local businesses and groups were located throughout the downtown helping all get in the Christmas spirit. A number of businesses were providing hot chocolate to keep all those out warm. Barney’s Adventure Park brought a couple of their animals down for a small petting zoo. Santa and Mrs. Claus were on hand for photos with the kids. At 5:30 all gathered around the big Christmas tree in the intersection of Centre Street and 3rd Avenue for the lighting. The switch was flipped by a young attendee and Mayor Tony Miglecz and the tree brightened up the downtown core.
After the tree lighting, at about 6 PM a fire show took place on 1st Street West near the plaza with a few people around to enjoy the show. The big winners were the businesses that were open late as many stopped in to visit as well as take a few moments to warm up. Everything wrapped up before the Dragons game which started at 7 PM.
