Our Drumheller Dragons had two games at the Memorial Arena with the second being the annual Teddy Bear Toss game.
The weekend started for the Dragons on Friday as they paid host to the Devon Xtreme for the first time this season. Drumheller would open the scoring with Bradley Gallo scoring his 14th of the year, from Jase Johnstone at 2:45. Just over four minutes later, the Dragons would increase their lead with Allen Sherpa scoring his 7th of the season, from Tristan Payne and Kaiden Schaupmeyer. Devon would counter with 5:43 remaining in the period with a goal by Lucas Knorr. The Dragons would take the 2-1 lead to the dressing room.
Early in the second, Bradley Gallo would score his second of the game (15), short-handed, from Kaiden Schaupmeyer. Drumheller would make it 4-1 at 8:36 with Dallin Antos scoring his fourth of the year, from Lauchlan Kozicky and Allen Sherpa. Devon would make things interesting as Kasey Russell Jr. would score with 8:49 remaining in the period, making it 4-2 Drumheller.
In the third, the Xtreme would make it a one goal game when Brynn MacLean scored at 6:26. Devon would pull their goaltender but would be unable to tie the game, giving the Dragons the 4-3 victory.
Sunday afternoon would be the Teddy Bear Toss game against the Drayton Valley Thunder. Drumheller would have a number of good chances in the first period to score the teddy bear goal but could not solve Thunder netminder Archer Cooke.
Early in the second, Drumheller would score the goal to let the teddy bears rain as Jensen Marsh scored his 7th of the year, from Bradley Gallo and Jase Johnstone at 3:19. The Dragons would stretch their lead to 2-0 when Lauchlan Kozicky scored his fifth of the year, from Tristan Payne and Kaiden Schaupmeyer at 8:21. Cue the comeback by Drayton Valley. With 4:34 left in the period, Dylan Snelgrove scored making it 2-1 Dragons. Less than two minutes later, Loughlan McMullan would score to tie the game 2-2 at the end of two periods.
Damian Hill of the Thunder would give his team the lead early in the third period, at 2:27, with his seventh of the year. Then, with 7:34 remaining, Hill would get his second of the game, giving Drayton Valley the 4-2 lead. Drumheller would get one back with 4:02 left, as Jensen Marsh scored his second of the game, from Bradley Gallo and Jase Johnstone. The Dragons would pull goaltender Sean Cootes for the extra attacker. Drayton Valley would have a couple of chances at the empty net but would hit the post. Drumheller could not score the equalizer and would fall 4-3.
The Dragons now hit the road for two this upcoming weekend. Friday night, the team heads to Whitecourt to face the league leading Wolverines. Saturday, they will have an opportunity for revenge against the Drayton Valley Thunder.
