The Drumheller Performing Arts Festival held its final performance on Sunday evening, celebrating a number of the performers from the festival that took place between March 2nd through the 8th.
According to Ashley Hansen from the Drumheller Performing Arts Festival, they had a great number of submissions and presenters this year, after taking a one year hiatus. “People were definitely excited to have us back. Piano and dance are two of our larger components of the Drumheller Performing Arts Festival. It was great to see that those were very well attended. Overall, I think we had about 140 participants in festival this year, and that includes our dance groups.”
Piano was held at the Badlands Community Facility, with all the other disciplines taking place at the Kaleidoscope Theatre. Hansen notes that the performances went very well. “Festival went very well this year. We had some great adjudicators who provided thoughtful and meaningful feedback to our participants. From those groups, our adjudicators nominated seven students to go through to Provincials.”
Their Final Concert took place on Sunday evening (March 15th) and Hansen shares that the show was fantastic. “We had a few of our adjudicators choice students come and perform for the rest of the group. We handed out approximately 65 awards, which are mostly funded through our sponsors and our donors.” The total amount of awards presented were approximately $5,300 which was able to be presented to the participants.
The Drumheller Performing Arts Festival will be back again in 2027 and Hansen states that the dates for the festival will be announced soon. They are also in search of a few more board members. If you are interested in being involved, check out their website for all the details.
