We all know the conversation at coffee row these days has to do with the high fuel prices not just here in the Drumheller Valley but all across the country.
The optimistic view on the situation is that prices in the Drumheller Valley don’t seem to be as bad as other areas of our province. Prices in Calgary are a couple of cents higher than in Drumheller with the lowest prices in the province currently in the Edmonton region.
Drumheller resident Rick Turpin appreciates that the price in Drumheller is a bit lower. “It’s nice because if you go out of town, it is a lot worse. Why should we be paying that price because when (the oil) is already in our country.”
Turpin and his family have been limiting their travel, not just because of price, but because of weather. “We have. Where do you go now a days, especially with the weather. It is so scary because you don’t know if you are going to hit two dollars a litre, or more.”
The fuel prices are reflective of the conflict in the Middle East and the struggle to get oil through the Strait of Hormuz. For those that drive diesel vehicles, the price is even worse with prices in Drumheller at around 189.9 per litre for diesel.
The world oil prices are affecting the gasoline prices. The US benchmark, West Texas Intermediate futures, were trading on Tuesday morning at 114.50 per barrel at prices not seen since June of 2022.
