On Monday evening, reports were coming out of Beiseker of a collision between a CN Rail freight train and a tractor trailer unit.
The collision happened at the crossing on Highway 72 just west of the Highway 9 and 72 intersection. Images show a blue tractor trailer unit being hit by the engine of the southbound CN train and dragging the truck down the rail line for about 600 metres before the train was able to come to a stop.
According to Airdrie Rural RCMP they received a call about the collision at 6:15PM on Monday evening. The semi, which was carrying fuel, proceeded too slowly across the railway crossing and was hit on the passenger side. Traffic was stopped while the investigation took place. The driver of the semi escaped with non-life threatening injuries. There was a small spill of fuel from the truck but the good news is that no fuel ignited due to the collision.
A this time there are no tickets or charges have been issued to the driver of the semi.
