The Town of Drumheller is preparing to move forward with construction of the 6 Avenue Road Connector in June.
The $1.68 million dollar project was approved by council last month, and will connect Highway 56/South Dinosaur Trail at the 6 Avenue SE intersection, to 2 Street E.
The Town says it will integrate the Rails to Trails network, provide landscaping enhancements, and future-ready infrastructure, including water and sewer lines, on top of improving access to Railway Avenue E and Highway 56.
“This road has been discussed many times over the years,” Councillor Crystal Sereda says in a release. “We are very excited to see this finally come to fruition and continue to work toward the long-term vision of a more accessible and connected downtown.”
The Town says this project is in line with the Downtown Area Revitalization Plan, and improves vehicle and pedestrian routes, while adjacent land has already drawn interest from developers.
The current recycling station on Railway Avenue E, will be relocated to 1 Street E and 7 Avenue SE starting this Friday (May 9).
