One of the key fundraisers for the Drumheller Dragons is underway for another year.
The “Field of Dreams” is in the process of being seeded for another growing season. This is the fourth growing season for the field, which is adjacent to the first hole at Dinosaur Trail Golf Course. Brandt has been a partner with the Dragons for all four seasons and according to Derian Cormier Branch Manager for Brandt Drumheller, the field is important for them to be a part of. “We use it as a testing ground to see what different fertilizer rates do with the different crops that we’re planting. This year we are planting canola.”
It is also a huge benefit to the staff as they get to test out the latest John Deere equipment shares Cormier. “We get to test out all our new equipment. We get to bring staff down as well, along with customers, get to learn about all our new equipment, and what we have on the horizon.”
The partnership is key for Brandt to support local admits Cormier. “The biggest thing for us is exposure, and supporting local. Supporting the Drumheller Dragons, they are our local hockey team so we just want to do the best we can for them.”
As was mentioned earlier, the just over 300 acres is being planted to canola this year. Over the four years they have alternated between wheat and canola.
There are a number of partners involved to make this field happen. Brandt Drumheller, Rivett Seeds, Richardson Pioneer, Westview Co-op, Sharpe’s Trucking, Koch Fuel Products, Fox Coulee Farms, BrokerLink, Brett and Terra Adams, and Cargill.
The hope is to make as much as possible off the canola crop to assist in costs for billeting and transportation for the Dragons this upcoming season.
