This past weekend, a number of local athletes and visitors came to the Drumheller Valley to challenge themselves with the Wild Rose Women’s 5K Run and the Wild Rose Women’s Triathlon.
The Women’s 5K was run in Midland with the start and finish line adjacent to the Dinosaur Trail Playground. The Women’s Triathlon took place at the Aquaplex and World’s Largest Dinosaur. According to Richelle Love from Wild Rose Womens Events it was an amazing weekend. “It went incredibly. We just love being in Drumheller. Drumheller is so welcoming and supportive for us putting on these events. We saw well over two hundred women run, or swim, bike, and run, this weekend.”
It is amazing to see the pure emotion from the competitors once they complete their run or triathlon admits Love. “They’re overflowing with emotion. We see a lot of tears; happy elated tears. Whether they are overcoming something that they never thought they could do, overcoming a lot of personal journeys, and we get to hear those stories. It is so touching to us that we get to be part of those journeys.”
The event continues to grow and Love, and her organizing team, can’t wait to see how much it will grow next year. “Our first year (in Drumheller) we had 54 on the start line of the triathlon. Last year we had 99 (participants). This year we had over 130 women put themselves to the test of the swim, bike, and run.”
Love and her team have confirmed that they plan on coming back for 2026. To stay updated with their events, not only here in Drumheller but also in Calgary and the surrounding area, visit their website at www.wildrosewomensevents.com.
