This week is Seniors’ Week in Alberta and the Drumheller Valley. In conjunction, the Drumheller and District Seniors Foundation is hosting an open house at Sunshine Lodge on Friday, June 6th.
People will be surprised at Sunshine Lodge, according to Drumheller and District Seniors Foundation Chair Tom Zariski. “There is so many people in the community that really don’t know what goes on at Sunshine Lodge. Sunshine Lodge is an incredible environment and home for a lot of seniors in our community that need a little bit extra help.”
With Sunshine Lodge, there are different levels of assistance that is provided for those that live there explains Zariski. “I kind of refer to it like being on an airplane. Everybody on that airplane is different and has different wants and needs. We have people that are totally independent and then we have those that have some medical issues. Overall, it is such a great environment. The vast majority of people have all their meals there and the recreation department is just phenomenal, It is like a cruise ship.”
For those looking to attend the open house, many aspects of Sunshine Lodge will be showcased shares Zariski. “We have various different rooms. Different areas of the lodge were built at different times. We like to show people everything. The highlight is the new 500 wing, which we just finished last year. Brand new, big, nice, apartment style rooms. Then we have older rooms that are a little bit smaller, a little bit quaint, and there are people that like those.” They will also be showcasing the plans for the new kitchen that will be built in the lodge this year. Also included in the property is Hillview Lodge which offers extra medical services to those who require them.
The Open House at Sunshine Lodge will be from 1;30 PM to 4 PM on Friday, June 6th. There will be games, prizes, and refreshments.
