On Monday morning, Drumheller Fire and Rescue responded to an alarms call at the Drumheller Subway restaurant on Highway 9 South.
According to Fire Chief Derian Rosario, it ended up being a problem with an electrical appliance. “We had an alarm call here at Subway. It turns out it was just an appliance failure. They had a little puff of smoke come out of it. Everything is fine.”
Drumheller Fire and Rescue did have their ladder truck respond and Rosario shares that fire crews did some checking to ensure no problems for the building. “Just on the side of safety, we always do a thorough check when we are here. I had them check take out the thermal imaging camera. We checked the wiring inside the wall to make sure it was cool and there wasn’t any issues there, and there wasn’t.”
Appliances can fail at any time so Rosario reminds everyone to err on the side of safety. “If you do have an appliance failure, it gets hot, and there is smoke, there is obviously a reason for that. It could be an appliance failure or it could be some (issue) within the wall. It is all best to err on the side of safety and get it checked out.”
Subway did not have to close due to the appliance failure and remains open to serve their customers.
