Mother Nature did everything she could to make it so the first Dino Days Stampede couldn’t move forward, but the rodeo crew are a resilient one.
A slew of contestants and die hard rodeo fans were on hand for the first rodeo held in Drumheller in over a decade. According to Al Bouchard from Rugged Rodeo, who brought the chutes and the stock to the show, he was happy they were able to go. “We had a pretty good crowd on Friday night. It was a pretty good show. On Saturday night, there wasn’t near as many people there but we had some top quality contestants. We had two Canadian champions, a CFR qualifier in the bronc riding, and a couple of other CFR contestants, so we had a pretty good group of contestants when it was all said and done.”
A number of kids participated in the mutton busting events on both Friday and Saturday nights, and were covered in mud from head to toe. “They seemed to like it,” shares Bouchard. “I don’t know what their mothers thought of all that mud on their clothes but it was a fun time.”
Considering the conditions, some good scores were put up by the winning contestants. In the Steer Wrestling, Jace Beierbach scored a 15.4 to win the purse. With Ladies Break Away, top time was Lara Beierbach with a 3.5. Pretty quick time for the Barrel Racing winner, Dylann Beasley with a 14.64. Tuftin McLeod and Brayden Brost topped the team roping with at time of 6.7. For the Saddle Bronc, Lachlin Miller won with a score of 73.5. In the Ranch Broncs, Robert Holman scored a 70 to take the win. Karter Downing scored a 71 in Novice Bull Riding. Brayden Brost won the Tie Down Roping with a time of 11.9. In the Bull Riding, Austin Bauman won with a score of 73.
Bouchard noted that the show is just going to get better and better next year. “The first year, you just have to put a good show for the crowd and then you can build from there. We put on a good show and we will build from it there. We had a lot of very good support from the community and there was a lot of engagement. I feel that it was a good event and will grow in the future. It will probably draw a good amount of people to Drumheller.” They have confirmed that the Dino Days Stampede will be back in 2026.
