Throughout the summer, we always hear motorcycles on the area roads. This past weekend there were a few more around the Drumheller area for the Bonedigger Bike Bash.
This was the second year for the motorcycle event that was held at the Drumheller Stampede and Ag Society from July 11th to 13th. Jeremy MacKenzie is one of the organizers and shares that year two was very well attended. “It went pretty good. We have improvements in every regard. The weather was a little bit cooler. This weekend is historically pretty hot and that is why we picked it. We had a great turnout and had great participation from everybody across all aspects.”
There is so many things going on with a show and shine and bike games. MacKenzie loves to see the community involvement in all of the events. “My favourite part is seeing the involvement, when people come together. Whether it is the smoke show, we had four or five guys with great burnouts. We had a really good turnout for the bike games and some of the tomfoolery that takes place, and the comradery. We had great bands. We had an onsite tattoo guy visit us again this year and seeing what people are doing there. Downtown, we had a great pancake breakfast. Seeing the involvement from the Grace House guys that come down to help out on Saturday morning, is great.”
The event has always raised funds for community groups and this year was no different, as the event supported the Grace House and Salvation Army. “All the proceeds from the poker run, the pancake breakfast, and then some other donations throughout the weekend, benefited both charities. We had people on hand from both charities, as well, that were involved and are involved in the riding community.”
With the event being successful once again, plans are already underway for year three, according to MacKenzie. “The first is always the toughest, the second one is hard to gear up for a little bit. It’s a lot of work. Just to see the reaction from the sponsors, from the participants, from the volunteers, we couldn’t do it without them. Everybody wants to do it and we want to grow it, and make it a big part of what Drumheller has to offer, for years to come.”
