It was a packed house in Camrose Tuesday at the Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre, as the Camrose and District Chamber of Commerce hosted the first by-election debate for Battle River-Crowfoot.
Ten of the over 200 candidates on the ballot spoke on issues including education, healthcare, immigration, electoral reform, and local representation.

NDP candidate Katherine Swampy said the heart of the economy is the working people, and says for the Liberals and Conservatives, it’s about the profits of the wealthy:

The Green’s Ashley MacDonald said with his party, MPs can vote how they want, and said if you want to protest, feel free to do it in his favour:
Also participating in Tuesday’s debate was Jonathan Bridges of the People’s Party, Libertarian Michael Harris, Jeff Willerton of the Christian Heritage Party, and Grant Abraham of the United Party. There is another debate planned by the Drumheller & District Chamber of Commerce, along with the Hanna & District Chamber of Commerce for August 5th. Tickets are limited, and can be picked up through the Chamber’s website.
The federal by-election is August 18th.
