A great fundraiser continues to grow as this summer the 3 Angels Poker Run was able to raise a significant amount for the Drumheller Area Health Foundation.
The fundraising event took place on August 9th in Drumheller and the surrounding area in memory of three young people that lost their lives back in 2021. Jenny Martin, one of the organizers of the annual event shares what it took for them to raise such a large amount this year. “It was just a full team effort. Everybody just went out and ask people in the community if they would sponsor us and everyone was more than happy to be part of the ride. Each year we do the poker run registration, the silent auction, and this year we added in a raffle. That goes towards building the funds to whatever cause we choose.”
The addition of the raffle may be one of the factors for the increase in funds according to Martin. “We started out with, I believe, 1,500 tickets, and we sold out before the raffle day even started. Next year, we are hoping to plan for a bigger number and see what transpires from it.”
This year the funds are going to the Recreational Therapy Program within the Drumheller Area Health Foundation and for Martin and the organizers, that just made sense to support them. “They provide activities, programs, and quality of life support for the residents in long term care. For many of us, it was a cause that was personal. My grandmother, she spent her final years in that unit so it feels really good to give back to the families in that unit.”
Martin and the group are pleased that the memory of the three continues to evoke positivity within the community. Plans are already in the works for the 6th Annual 3 Angels Poker Run next summer.
