As the Drumheller Dragons prepare for their upcoming season, the partnership between the team, New Country 92.5, and boom 99.5 continues again this year.
Twenty selected Dragons away games will be available on New Country 92.5 with Jason Blanke and Boedy Shields. Director of Operations with the Dragons, Boedy Shields understands the importance of being on the radio with the games. “For a lot of people in the Drumheller area, it is their first place that they find out all their Dragons news. All the updates on the team, they listen to the away games. It’s how they learn about the players too, with the pregame and the intermissions interviews. It’s funny how many messages we get during a broadcast of people listening. I think it is very important and is a really big reason why Drumheller has such a great fan base.”
The partnership is so important between both the radio station and the team confirms Shields. “All of our partners, every single one that sponsors on the radio is also a Dragons sponsor. I think it really encompasses that whole community feel.”
The motto for the team this year is “Our Team, Our Town, Our Year”. Shields feels confident in the team this year and hopes the results are there too. “You look on paper, we have such a talented, such a veteran group in a league that is relatively young. We are expecting big things out of Bradley Gallo, Lauchlan Kozicky, Allen Sherpa. On the back end we have a number of guys with three or four years of junior ‘A’ experience. We have our 20 year-old, Sean Cootes, in net, and expect a big year out of him as he chases down some Dragons records. It just feels that this is the year and the Dragons are due.” The town seems excited as Shields shared that they have sold the most season tickets this season than ever before.
