As many know the teachers in our province are looking like they will be going on strike at the start of next week.
This creates many issues for parents on what to do with the kids to keep them busy while the work stoppage continues and child care as many must work and have limited options. The Town of Drumheller Recreation department has been working to put plans in place in case this teacher strike was to happen. Erica Crocker, Communications Officer with the Town of Drumheller, provides a couple of options for parents. “The Badlands Community Facility and the Drumheller Aquaplex have been planning to provide recreation focused day camps for families that are impacted by the upcoming school closures. For families with kids that are in Kindergarten through Grade 6, the BCF and Aquaplex are offering day camps that are filled with all sort of different activities throughout the school closure.”
The Town is offering different options as well when it comes to the number of days that the kids are in one of the camps according to Crocker. “Either you can register for the week, but you can register per day. It is $40 per day or $175 per week. If you have more than one child, you will receive an additional 15% off.”
The program will be available while the teachers are out notes Crocker. “What we are planning for is to be offering the Badlands Kid Zone Day Camp for the duration of the school closure.” They will also offer early drop off, at 7:45 AM each day and late pick up, as late as 5:15 PM Monday through Friday.
Crocker also shares what parents need to provide their kids to attend. “Just a reminder to pack some lunch, some snacks, a refillable water bottle, some indoor footwear, clothes that may get a bit messy, weather appropriate outdoor clothing, swimwear, towel, goggles, for the days that they will be going swimming.”
To register, reach out to the Badlands Community Facility at 403-823-1370 or more details are online at www.drumheller.ca.
