The forecasters from Environment and Climate Change Canada said that the Drumheller region was to expect snow on Friday (November 7) morning and they got it right.
Drumheller and the surrounding communities got their first real shot of snow in the fall. Most years we see snow before Halloween so we have to feel pretty fortunate. Road conditions were pretty rough to start out the day on Friday with a number of area highways either fully covered or partially covered.
The forecast has predicted that the area could see between 5 and 10 centimetres of the white stuff on Friday and by 10 AM there was quite a blanket of snow on the ground. Some areas received freezing rain prior to the snow making both roads and sidewalks very slippery.
The covering of snow is expected to be short lived as the current forecast for next week for Drumheller is expecting temperatures in the mid-teens by Monday. The snow covering will only be a memory.
