On Tuesday, November 11th, a small gathering took place at the Badlands Community Facility with volunteers from the Conservative Party of Canada from the Battle River-Crowfoot riding.
It was to recognize all that worked to help in the by-election which saw Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Official Opposition, get elected as the MP for Battle River-Crowfoot after the resignation of Damien Kurek. The event would be the first time that Poilievre would be in Drumheller as the community’s representative in the House of Commons. Poilievre is happy to be back in the riding and recognizing those who worked hard to help him get elected. “It’s amazing to be back. I love the people of Battle River-Crowfoot. They feed, power, and protect our country. The farmers, ranchers, soldiers, energy workers, they are so precious to Canada. It has been reinvigorating for me to be in Wainwright, Camrose, Stettler, and now Drumheller, and reconnect with such incredible people.”
During the campaign, Poilievre shared that many of the issues we are facing here in our riding, are also issues our nation is dealing with. He has been bringing these issues to the forefront on the national stage. “I’ve been fighting for pipelines, get oil and gas development, gun rights, tough on crime, canola farmers, and countless other local issues at a national level. The only way we are going to serve the interest of the people in this region is to champion the changes at a national level they require.”
Being the leader of the Official Opposition takes a large amount of time so Poilievre appreciates the time he can make it back to our region. “I am really thrilled to be back here. I wish I could spend even more time with the people here but I think that they appreciate for me to get results for them locally, I have to fight the national battle. That’s what I continue to do. I want to thank the people of Battle River-Crowfoot for the incredible endorsement they gave me, 81 percent, and thanks to the great Damien Kurek for making it possible and his future service in Parliament.”
