The Drumheller Dragons announced this week that there is a new business manager for the team as Boedy Shields has been offered a new opportunity.
Lee Ann Jarrett has been hired as the new business manager and she admits that hockey is in her bloodline. “I’ve been around hockey my entire life. My brother played hockey, so I was always at the rink. I married into a very traditional hockey family. There are 56 of us and every single generation has played hockey. My son was on skates when he was two. We always say, by virtue of his last name, he just had to play hockey. He’s very, very passionate about hockey and I am at the rink all of the time.”
Jarrett has been involved with the team for years as a billet parent. “My husband and I have been a billet parent for the last six years. We had Sam Simard for three years, and then I’ve had a few kids in between. This year I have one of the rookie kids, Nathan Ivey.”
For Jarrett to be involved with the Dragons just seemed to make sense. “I’m very, very passionate about the team. I’m very passionate about the players. I also love promoting the Dragons around town. I think that the organization gives back to the community, and being in a small town, giving back to the community reflects in the support that we get in this community.”
As for changes people may see moving forward, Jarrett doesn’t believe there will be much. “Boedy is staying on right now, as an advisor. I feel like I have big shoes to fill, because he was fantastic at his job. He has already started mentoring me and we won’t be changing anything. I think if something is already working, why makes some changes.”
Jarrett is looking forward to her new role and appreciates all the help she has received from the organization as she continues to learn.
