Almost as traditional as Christmas, the team at Westergard Motors is preparing for their Annual Christmas Toy Drive to help with the Christmas hampers distributed by the Salvation Army.
For Tiffany Andrew and the team at Westergard, the kickoff helps to get everyone in the Christmas spirit. “Got the decorations up in the dealership, we’re going to get the window paintings done, and we are going to get the trucks in here to fill again for the Salvation Army.”
The community support for this initiative is strong every year and Andrew admits that they always get quite a bit for the younger kids. “It is definitely easier (to buy) for the little ones. Talking to Robert at the Salvation Army, this year, it seems that all the little ones we have been buying for, for years and years, have grown up. Now the needs are starting to get to the age group of the 10 to 16 year-olds, girls and boys.”
It is easier to purchase gifts for the younger kids but Andrew and her team are at a bit of a loss of the needs of the pre-teens and teenagers. “Honestly, if there are parents out there that know what their 10 to 16 year old kids are looking for, please come in and give us some ideas.”
Some ideas may be gift cards to local recreation opportunities, like the Aquaplex or BCF, possibly gift cards for games, either online or physical games at the store, or even gift cards for some of the local restaurants.
Andrew and the crew at Westergard’s love to see the boxes of the trucks fill up and they plan to get things underway starting on Monday. “We are going to start on the 24th of November. They are asking for all of the gifts to be taken over to the Salvation Army on December 11th. I am putting a plea out there as a lot of people don’t think about Christmas until December. We are kicking it off a week early because that deadline seems mighty early.”
Andrew hopes that those that have helped in years past will help out again this Christmas. “We’re asking all of our regulars, that have been here year after year, that have helped us to fill those trucks up, to come on in, have a visit, have a hot chocolate, and let’s fill those trucks!
